Reports
from the US Government shows that almost 98 million of the total
American population have likely stumbled upon and used marijuana; at
least at some point in their lives. There is also a growing trend of
weed use among students in the secondary and tertiary levels.
In
recent years, there have been moves on the legalization of using and
growing weed to be used in the field of medicine. Some physicians even
recommend the usage for some patients with specific medical conditions.
Actually, weed was used for medicinal purposes even before the 1930's. A
portion of the American public reacted negatively when the using and
growing weed was prohibited. It gained support from the underground
community, though. Those who support the use of weed for medicinal
purposes have presented ample evidences that the use of marijuana helps
in alleviating nausea and pain due to specific medical conditions.
Evidences have also shown that the use of weed can also aid in treating
multiple sclerosis and glaucoma.
However,
there have also been efforts on the legalization on using and growing
weed for the use of weed aside from medicinal purposes. The supporters
say that if using and growing weed is legalized, this will be helpful in
terms of economic gains. This is due to the belief that growing weed
will require only minimal attention. Aside from that, one would only
need a small amount of weed to experience its full effects, unlike when
one would use tobacco. In the event that these steps would become
successful, a person will have the liberty of growing weed right in his
backyard.
However,
those who oppose the steps on legalizing weed would say that if using
and growing weed become legal, other illegal drugs would also take the
same steps. This position is being backed up by government statistics.
Motor vehicles may also level up to new dynamics should weed be
legalized. Laws related to the levels of weed use when driving since the
use of marijuana may increase heart rate and may cause one to be out of
focus. In the event the drug is legalized, those who are opposed and
for the legalization of weed have different opinions on its effect on
crime. Those who push on the legalization of using and growing weed say
that crime rates will decrease since the use is brought into a setting
which is mainstream. Those who oppose the idea believe that there will
be more crimes since there is a widespread use; one would not have
second thoughts on trying these out as well.
Some
of them also say that since the effects of weed is seventy percent
higher than when using tobacco, chances of lung cancer also increases.
There are even more debates on whether or not legalization of using and
growing weed should be imposed. So, on which side are you?
